2 days of continuous development and programming, the night without sleep, lectures from the experts, a lot of pizza and unforgettable experience — this is how ML+AI Hackathon in e-Health & Open Data was held on 20 and 21 of May. It has united beginners and experienced participants of hackathon, mentors and guests. Already formed teams and participants, who wish to join the team, attended the event. But there is one thing they all have in common — their aim to create something new and important as well as interesting and useful. And they did it!

85 young and perspective people took part in this hackathon. They had excellent support from 15 experts, and the team of organizers took care of the comfortable, productive, and working environment. 12 of 13 teams reached the final and professional jury choose three winners. There were awarding tickets to iForum.ua and Data Science UA Conference 2017 at the morning for those who “survived” the night — and four lucky guys get the opportunity to attend these conferences for free. Moreover, Data Science UA organizers gave the promo code for 50% discount to the conference for all teams.

The results that the participants achieved in just two days are really impressive:

  • “Smart Care” team took third place with their project of the same name. Smart Care is a health monitoring system with a purpose of timely medical care and health status monitoring of chronically ill persons and the elderly. The team didn’t stop their work even after hackathon. They went through the incubation in Yep! and got on the acceleration.
  • “Smart Ring” project get the second place according to the expert jury. The team’s development aimed at solving similar problems but their presentation was more convincing.
  • By the results of experts’ voting the team “Ultimate Robotics” won with their “public prosthesis” project which is an artificial limb substitute. It is integrated and set in motion by electrical impulses of surviving parts of the limbs’ muscles. This prosthesis should have more democratic price than the analogues.
  • The winning team also got the Audience Choice Award which means that not only respected experts but also the participants of hackathon appreciated the importance and value of the project. The received award was used for its development and later on winners purchased the oscilloscope to be able to more accurately measure the results and reach a new level.

We are glad that this event has become an impetus for so many meaningful projects and have an impact on so many great teams and their projects! For example, Ultimate Robotics team bought the cool modern oscilloscope for the money awarded at the Hackathon by winning the 1st place.

Moreover, not only the three prizewinners can boast their post-hackathon success. Solvaig company presented a portable electrocardiograph to the Rising App team, which showed the greatest progress after the hackathon. What is more, their project was awarded the 1st place at the Science Innovation Contest and the members get the invitation to the free internship in the Summer School in Germany, the Business Training in Technology Transfer!
